The .22 Long Rifle is pretty much the premier vermin exterminator, has been for decades. But some applications are still not ideal for a solid projectile, and regular shotgun gauges are way overkill. Pest control in gardens and around houses come time mind.
Federal .22LR birdshot answers a lot of those questions. Accurate at short distances, yet lacking the lethal overshoot of a solid projectile, this load will absolutely level birds, rodents, rabbits, and other vermin of that ilk.
So why choose .22 LR birdshot over a standard shotgun? Collateral damage. Even a .410 gauge shotgun packs a devastating punch at close range and will obliterate just about anything in its way, including your crops. Also, the report of a shotgun is about as unfriendly as the carnage created, whereas a .22 LR is very quiet comparatively. And to be frank, a lot of people who may be the gardening variety may have a healthy aversion to the kick of any shotgun, where the .22 LR has practically none.
There are plenty of good reasons to stock up on .22LR shotshells, so go ahead and try them out if you are on the fence. Or if you are a seasoned veteran, you’ll know a good deal when you see it. Either way, pick up a box or two and score a good deal in the process.
